E. E. Smith, also Edward Elmer Smith, Ph.D., E.E. "Doc" Smith, Doc Smith, "Skylark" Smith, and (to family) Ted (May 2, 1890 - August 31, 1965) was a science fiction author who wrote the Lensman series and the Skylark series, among others. Greatly influential in US pulp magazines between 1928 and 1945. He began the famous "Skylark" series in 1915, it proved to be a huge sucess.

We first got hold of the Sylark books at school in Worthing in the 60s, the local library stocked them and I would get hold of copies after school and usually finish them and return for another fix in next to no time. Wondrous escapist SF.
