George Raymond Richard Martin (sometimes called GRRM, born September 20, 1948 in Bayonne, New Jersey) is an American author and screenwriter of science fiction, horror, and fantasy.

His first published story was "The Hero" for Gal in 1971 and success quickly followed, "A Song for Lya" a 1974 novella won the first of his three Hugos to date.

We first took notice of george R R Martin through his short fiction which was appearing in a number of short story collections in the 70s and 80s, but the major work that knocked us sideways was The Game of Thrones - absolutely epic scale and a plot so devious the Medicis would have been proud to have been involed.
