James Herbert (born 8 April 1943, London) is a best selling English horror writer known for his simple yet compelling sensationalist novels, which are notable for their use of horrific set pieces. His earliest and arguably his most successful sequence was "The Rats" in 1974.

The Rats was great, I saw an episode of Doomwatch as a kid and there were some man eating rats in that, so I got this book, different plot but very powerful. The thing is with James you can always rely on a good story well told.
