Jeffery Deaver (born 1950, near Chicago) is a mystery/crime writer. He originally started working as a journalist, but trained as a lawyer and later practised law.

Many of his books tend to promote lateral thinking, particularly his short story collection Twisted Tales. His Lincoln Rhyme stories are Sherlockian in many ways, a powerful mind solving crimes. The reader really is carried along with the plot and Amelia Sachs is a strong character, the perfect foil for Rhyme.
