Laurence van Cott Niven (born April 30, 1938) is a US science fiction
author. Perhaps his best-known work is Ringworld (1970), which received
Hugo, Locus, Ditmar, and Nebula awards.
He was born in California where he set many of his stories. His
first publication was "The Coldest Place" for If Magazine
in 1964. He won the Hugo and Nebula award for "Ringworld".
Part of the "Tales of Known Space" sequence.
I remember reading Ringworld one summer when I was revising for
my A level exams sitting on Worthing beach, once I started i couldn't
put it down and my revision was put on hold for a day or two. Then
I started to hunt other Niven titles, on the whole I don't think
I have ever felt let down by a Niven story.
