Star Wars is a science fantasy saga and fictional galaxy created by writer / producer / director George Lucas during the 1970s. Star Wars is an interesting pastiche that drwas upon a whole gamut of cultural references, comic strips, old serials, Westerns, James Bond, The Wizard of Oz etc. It is escapist fun and I recal fondlyl the first time I saw the opening sequence with the words scrolling across the screen and then the big bass rumble as the spacecraft came into view - bliss!
